One County One Book is an initiative run by Laois Libraries as part of Leaves, designed to connect communities through the shared experience of reading and discussing the same book. This initiative successfully fosters a sense of community, promotes literacy and encourages a love of reading.
This year’s One County One Book is Kevin Curran’s Youth. Youth is a novel that explores the lives of four teenagers in Balbriggan. The story delves into the challenges and aspirations of these young individuals as they navigate the complexities of modern life.

Kevin Curran's third novel, Youth, was published to critical acclaim by The Lilliput Press in 2023. It was an Irish Times, Sunday Independent & RTE Culture Best Book of 2023. It was also a Laureate for Fiction's Book Club choice for 2024. He has published two other novels, Beatsploitation (2013) and Citizens (2016). As well as writing non-fiction for the Guardian and the Observer, he has also published short stories in The Stinging Fly and other anthologies. For over ten years he has been teaching in his home town in Balbriggan, Co Dublin
