Our festival highlight is guaranteed to be an unforgettable evening of poetry and music featuring Pulitzer and T.S. Eliot prize winning poet Paul Muldoon, master fiddle player Caoimhín Ó'Raghallaigh and the legendary accordionist Brendan Begley.

Highly regarded as one of the most significant poets of our time, Paul Muldoon makes his first appearance on a Laois stage.  Experience the magic as Muldoon’s evocative verses intertwine with the rich and traditional sounds of Ó’Raghallaigh’s fiddle and Begley’s accordion. This unique collaboration of three extraordinary talents promises to transport you through an intricate tapestry of words and music.

Paul Muldoon

Paul Muldoon was born in County Armagh in 1951. He now lives in New York. A former radio and television producer for the BBC in Belfast, he has taught at Princeton University for thirty-five years. He is the author of fifteen collections of poetry including Joy in Service on Rue Tagore, published by FSG and Faber and Faber in 2024. Among his awards are the 1972 Eric Gregory Award, the 1980 Sir Geoffrey Faber Memorial Award, the 1994 T.S. Eliot Prize, the 1997 Irish Times Poetry Prize, the 2003 Pulitzer Prize, the 2003 Griffin International Prize for Poetry, the 2004 American Ireland Fund Literary Award, the 2004 Shakespeare Prize, the 2006 European Prize for Poetry, the 2015 Pigott Poetry Prize, the 2017 Queens Gold Medal for Poetry, and the 2020 Michael Marks Award. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society for Literature and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh

Caoimhin is one of Ireland’s most highly regarded fiddle players and traditional musicians. Performing on his unique 10 string Hardanger D’amore, Caoimhín blends the rich heritage of Irish traditional music with contemporary influences to create his own inimitable sound.

Caoimhín has travelled the world as both a solo musician as well as in duos with Dan Trueman, Mick O'Brien and Brendan Begley and bands such as The Gloaming and This Is How We Fly. He has toured to some of the most beautiful stages in the world, including the Sydney Opera House, the Royal Albert Hall and Carnegie Hall, as well as more intimate venues.

Caoimhín has released seventeen critically acclaimed recordings ranging from traditional to more experimental.

Brendan Begley

Brendan Begley is from a highly  a musical family in Corca Dhuibhne, West Kerry.

He has recorded four solo albums and has performed  with various bands including Beginish, Boys of the Lough and the Chieftains. He recorded A CD with Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh titled "A Moment of Madness" and performed in Carnegie Hall a number of times with Glen Hansard.

He has hosted television programs for RTÉ television and TG4: Geantraí, Logainmeacha, Caipíní and recently did a third series with his son Cormac "Slí Na mBeaglaoich".

He was part of the Camino Voyage documentary and was central to the documentary The Man With The Moving House. He also did a Ted Talk titled "A Cry from the most westerly point of Europe".

He has just completed a 10,000 mile journey which involved travelling for 10 weeks in a small vehicle, Suzuki Jimny, from west Kerry to Ulaan Bataar, Mongolia traveling through 21 countries in total. We'll see what's next!
